Bio

Clémence Demay is a PhD student in Hispanic Literature at the University of Toulouse Jean Jaurès (CEIIBA). Codirected with the Universidad de Querétaro in Mexico, her PhD thesis focuses on the writing of the body in the contemporary bilingual Zapotec Spanish poetry of Natalia Toledo and Irma Pineda. In her research, she examines the literary canons in contemporary poetic writing, particularly by indigenous women, highlighting the rich literary heritage in languages native to Mexico. Alongside her work as a researcher, thanks to funding from the Institut Ramon Llull, she translated Mireia Calafell's collection Poétiques du Corps (Poètiques del cos, Ed. Galerada, Barcelona, 2006), published in the revue Le Journal des Poètes (November 2022), and took part in an anthology of Catalan poetry published in the revue Bacchanales, edited by Pierre Vieuguet.

Project

During her stay at Faberllull, she'd like to extend her work on translating women's voices from Catalan literature, which are still rarely translated into French. Her plan is to focus my research on women poets of the Franco period, such as Josefa Contijoch, whose work had never been published in French before the few poems she was able to translate in the forthcoming Bacchanales anthology. She'd like to be able to consult the collections of the Institute, as well as those of the libraries of the Autonomous University of Barcelona in particular, in order to identify works that might be interesting to translate, but which are virtually inaccessible in France today. She'll also be able to take advantage of her stay to meet authors who, like Josefa Contijoch, are still alive, and who will be able to give me their point of view on both the selection and my translation choices.
